Slovakia operates on Central European Time (CET) during winter months, which is 1 hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+1). During daylight saving time, observed from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October, Slovakia switches to Central European Summer Time (CEST), which is UTC+2.
All of Slovakia follows the same timezone. Major cities including Bratislava, Košice, Prešov, and Žilina all observe the same time. Slovakia shares its timezone with all its neighboring countries.
Bratislava is the only national capital that borders two other countries—Austria and Hungary. Slovakia has more castles and chateaux per capita than any other country in the world, with over 180 castles and 425 chateaux. The country was part of Czechoslovakia until the peaceful "Velvet Divorce" in 1993.
