Guyana operates on Guyana Time (GYT) year-round, which is 4 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC-4). Guyana does not observe daylight saving time, so the time remains consistent throughout the year.
All of Guyana follows the same timezone. Georgetown, the capital, and all other regions observe GYT. Guyana shares the same timezone as Bolivia, Venezuela, and Chile during winter, as well as the Atlantic provinces of Canada during AST.
Guyana is the only English-speaking country in South America. About 80% of the country is covered by tropical rainforest. Kaieteur Falls in Guyana is one of the world's most powerful waterfalls, with a single drop of 226 meters - about five times higher than Niagara Falls. The country's name means "Land of Many Waters" in indigenous language.
