Azerbaijan operates on Azerbaijan Time (AZT), which is 4 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+4). The entire country follows a single timezone and does not observe daylight saving time (discontinued in 2016).
Major cities including Baku, Ganja, Sumqayit, and Mingachevir all follow AZT. Azerbaijan shares its timezone with Georgia, Armenia, the UAE, and Oman.
Azerbaijan is known as the "Land of Fire" due to its natural gas flames that have burned for millennia. Baku hosted the first oil boom in the world in the late 19th century, and the iconic Flame Towers dominate the modern skyline. The country has mud volcanoes—over half of the world's total. Azerbaijan's Icheri Sheher (Old City) in Baku is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
