Indonesia spans 3 time zones across its vast archipelago of over 17,000 islands. Western Indonesia Time (WIB, UTC+7) covers Sumatra, Java, and West/Central Kalimantan. Central Indonesia Time (WITA, UTC+8) covers Bali, Sulawesi, and East/South Kalimantan. Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT, UTC+9) covers Papua and the Maluku Islands.
Indonesia does not observe daylight saving time. Jakarta and most of the population use WIB, while popular tourist destination Bali uses WITA.
Indonesia is the world's largest archipelago nation and the fourth most populous country. The country spans 5,000 km from east to west—roughly the same distance as from London to New York. Indonesia is home to the Komodo dragon, the world's largest lizard, and Borobudur, the world's largest Buddhist temple. Despite having three time zones, Indonesia has considered proposals to unify to a single timezone for economic efficiency.
