Timor-Leste (East Timor) operates on Timor Leste Time (TLT), which is 9 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+9). The entire country follows a single timezone and does not observe daylight saving time.
Dili, the capital and largest city, along with other towns including Baucau, Maliana, and Suai all follow TLT. Timor-Leste shares its timezone with Japan, South Korea, and parts of Indonesia (East Indonesia Time).
Timor-Leste is one of the world's youngest nations, gaining independence from Indonesia in 2002. Despite being geographically close to Indonesia (which uses UTC+7 to UTC+9), Timor-Leste chose UTC+9 to differentiate itself. The country has two official languages: Tetum and Portuguese, making it the only Portuguese-speaking country in Asia.
