Major cities including Ashgabat (the capital), Turkmenabat, Mary, and Dashoguz all follow TMT. Turkmenistan shares its timezone with Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
Turkmenistan is home to the Darvaza Gas Crater, nicknamed the "Door to Hell"—a natural gas field that has been burning continuously since 1971. The country holds the fourth-largest natural gas reserves in the world. Ashgabat holds the Guinness World Record for having the highest density of white marble buildings and is one of the most isolated countries in the world.
