Yemen operates on Arabia Standard Time (AST), which is 3 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+3). The entire country follows a single timezone and does not observe daylight saving time.
Major cities including Sana'a, Aden, Taiz, and Al Hudaydah all follow AST. Yemen shares its timezone with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Iraq.
Yemen is known as the birthplace of coffee—the port city of Mocha gave its name to the famous coffee variety. The Old City of Sana'a, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been continuously inhabited for over 2,500 years. Yemen's Socotra Island is called the "Galápagos of the Indian Ocean" due to its unique endemic species, including the Dragon Blood Tree.
