What Time is it in Nunavut?

Nunavut spans three time zones due to its vast size. The capital, Iqaluit, and most of eastern Nunavut operate on Eastern Standard Time (EST) during winter (UTC-5) and Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) during summer (UTC-4). Central Nunavut uses Central Time (CST/CDT), and western Nunavut uses Mountain Time (MST/MDT).

The time shown here reflects Iqaluit, the territorial capital. Other major communities include Rankin Inlet (Central Time), Cambridge Bay (Mountain Time), and Resolute (Central Time). Daylight saving time is observed from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November.

Fun Fact

Nunavut is Canada's newest and largest territory, established in 1999. It covers about 20% of Canada's total land area but has a population of only about 40,000 people. The name "Nunavut" means "Our Land" in Inuktitut, the Inuit language. Alert, Nunavut is the northernmost permanently inhabited place in the world, just 817 km from the North Pole.
