Comoros operates on East Africa Time (EAT), which is 3 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+3). The country does not observe daylight saving time, so the offset remains constant throughout the year.
All of Comoros follows the same timezone. The three main islands—Grande Comore (Ngazidja), Anjouan (Nzwani), and Mohéli (Mwali)—all observe EAT. Moroni, the capital and largest city, is located on Grande Comore island.
Comoros is one of the world's largest producers of ylang-ylang, an essential oil used in perfumes including Chanel No. 5. The island nation is also home to Mount Karthala, one of the world's largest active volcanoes. The coelacanth, a "living fossil" fish thought extinct for 65 million years, was rediscovered in Comoran waters in 1938.
