Uganda operates on East Africa Time (EAT), which is 3 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+3). The country does not observe daylight saving time, so the offset remains constant throughout the year.
All of Uganda follows the same timezone. Major cities including Kampala, Gulu, Lira, and Mbarara all observe EAT. Kampala, the capital and largest city, is located on the shores of Lake Victoria and serves as the country's commercial and political center.
Uganda is known as the "Pearl of Africa," a name given by Winston Churchill. The country is home to over half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Uganda also contains the source of the Nile River at Jinja, where Lake Victoria flows into the world's longest river.
