Lesotho operates on South Africa Standard Time (SAST), which is 2 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+2). The country does not observe daylight saving time, so the offset remains constant throughout the year.
All of Lesotho follows the same timezone. Major cities including Maseru, Teyateyaneng, Mafeteng, and Hlotse all observe SAST. Maseru, the capital and largest city, is located on the Caledon River on the border with South Africa.
Lesotho is one of only three countries in the world completely surrounded by another country (the others are San Marino and Vatican City within Italy). Known as the "Kingdom in the Sky," Lesotho is the only country in the world where all of its land is above 1,000 meters in elevation. It's also known for its snow-capped mountains and is home to Africa's first ski resort.
