Chad operates on West Africa Time (WAT), which is 1 hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+1). The country does not observe daylight saving time, so the offset remains constant throughout the year.
All of Chad follows the same timezone. Major cities including N'Djamena, Moundou, Sarh, and Abéché all observe WAT. N'Djamena, the capital and largest city, is located at the confluence of the Chari and Logone rivers near the Cameroon border.
Lake Chad, from which the country takes its name, was once one of the largest lakes in Africa but has shrunk by over 90% since the 1960s. Chad is home to the Ennedi Massif, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring stunning rock formations and ancient cave paintings dating back thousands of years.
