Libya operates on Eastern European Time (EET), which is 2 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+2). The country does not observe daylight saving time, so the offset remains constant throughout the year.
All of Libya follows the same timezone despite being the fourth largest country in Africa. Major cities including Tripoli, Benghazi, Misrata, and Sabha all observe EET. Tripoli, the capital and largest city, is located on the Mediterranean coast in northwestern Libya.
Libya has the largest proven oil reserves in Africa. The country is home to five UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the ancient Roman city of Leptis Magna, one of the best-preserved Roman ruins in the Mediterranean. Over 90% of Libya is covered by the Sahara Desert.
