All of Equatorial Guinea follows the same timezone. Major cities including Malabo, Bata, and Ebebiyín all observe WAT. Malabo, the capital, is located on the island of Bioko in the Gulf of Guinea, while Bata on the mainland is the largest city.
Equatorial Guinea is the only African country where Spanish is an official language, a legacy of Spanish colonization. Despite its name, the Equator does not actually pass through Equatorial Guinea. The country has one of the highest GDPs per capita in Africa due to its oil reserves.
